gah.
Right, what really annoys me is all this shallow “true wuv 5ever!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!” pseudo-sexy sort of crap seems to be flying of the shelves. Now, I could look past the purple prose, the obnoxious characters, the terrible writing styles, the abusive relationships, the gender roles, the superficial values, complete lack of logic, the many research failings, the sexism, the self-inserts, undeveloped plot, the Mary-Sue’s and everything else which is covered in premise of “true wuv!!!!!!1!!!!!!”.
No, the thing that really gets me is that this sort of crap actually gets published and that the writers become “authors” and that what they wrote becomes best sellers so clearly they’re amazing super special authors! 8D No. They’re not good writers at all, they’re just pandering to a market which manages to incorporate both teenage girls and dissatisfied middle-age women, the latter of which the author belongs to.
These books are not “epic romances” and never will be. They dress up serious issues like abuse as actual romance, though according to these books it doesn’t matter if a guy stalks you or pressures you into sex as long as he’s hot and rich. That’s fucking brilliant. *slow clap* And people say that feminism is a dead issue.
Another thing is, the actual good literature is being so overlooked because everyone is flocking towards Twishite, 50 Shades of Fuck and other books like it. It devalues the art of reading good fiction and writing good literature. There are plenty more deserving authors and writers out there who don’t even get half the attention which these people get.
Twilight and 50 Shades are being made into films. Why? Not because they’re good but because people buy into it yet the author and their fans get to parade around like they’re the next Shakespeare or Brontë sister.
If you’re still reading this and thinking “hey, they’re actually good authors” go out and read books by George Orwell, Harper Lee, Markus Zusak, Khaled Hosseini, Yiyun Li, Stephen King, J.K Rowling, Ken Kesey and Eva Ibbotson and see how they compare.
The second part was about Twilight.
Seriously. ¬¬
I thought it was a literature lesson.
Dangerous Role Models: Twilight
All the reasons why Bella’s relationships with Edward and Jacob are not “perfect” but in fact abusive and unhealthy. Yet thousands and even million of people accept this as “love” but there is nothing loving at all about their relationship.
Twilight should have never been published, the series fails in every aspect of literature and romance.
You know that a romance has failed when the slash make more sense, has more dept and is more healthy than the orginial couple.
Some very brave person took the time to correct or otherwise point out the errors which Meyer made while writing New Moon. The full chapter can be found here: http://twilight-sucks.livejournal.com/1424105.html
Whether you think the Twilight series is good or bad comes down to opinion, but the use of bad grammar is a fact.
Moral of the story? If you have a degree in English and you write for a living then a standard of grammar is expected from you.

You know, a film which isn’t a version of a poorly written clichéd book which doesn’t glorify superficial and abusive relationships, empty characters, massive plot holes.
Well, if that can get published my hopes of becoming a writer are higher.
Oh RP, if only you stayed as Cedric. ;n;
I reckon if the Book Theif is made into a film, you’d made a good Max. Not sure how the Book Theif could be turned into a film. It would have to be a very good film to capture the magic of the Book Theif.
Still, you’d made a good Max.
